Have YOU Seen Molly?!

That’s what Madonna decided to yell into the crowd at Ultra Music Festival in Miami last week. For anyone who doesn’t know, Molly is a slang term for MDMA (ecstasy). Many people had a problem with her asking young, influential music-lovers if they were on ecstasy at the festival, but one person was so disgusted that he took to social media to rant. Deadmau5.

Deadmau5, whose real name is Joel Zimmerman, posted an 800-word rant on his Facebook and Tumblr pages, saying that Madonna was a, “f–king IDIOT” and posed questions like, “That’s your big message to ultra attendies? hipsterspeak for looking for drugs? F–k off.” He went on to explain that he does not want his music (electronic dance music) to be correlated with drug use, and that he has been trying very hard to separate the two.

Deadmau5 didn’t stop after the lengthy rant. He Tweeted Madonna saying, “You’re a role model to 100’s of millions. You have a powerful voice, EDM [electronic dance music] could use your positive influence, not ‘molly’ talk.”

Rather than snap back at Deadmau5, Madonna chose to respond via photo:

The quote says, “From one mouse to another, I don’t supper drug use and I never have. I was referring to the song called “Have You Seen Molly”written by my friend Cedric Gervais who I almost worked with on my album…”

Deadmau5 explained that he was just voicing his concerns as he usually does and Madonna asked that he personally talk with her next time. The two have squashed the drama.

The only question I’ve got left is why nobody ever mentioned how darn close Madonna’s new album name, MDNA (for Madonna, I assume) is to the name of the drug this drama was all over, MDMA?!

  1. I personally think Madonna was using that as a cover up! How on earth would people know she was talking about a song? Annoying. This got squashed quick by her PR team, so good for them, but I personally don’t think it’s honest.
