Just another WordPress.com site

I’m not sure about the rest of you, but I’ve glanced at TLC’s “Extreme Couponing” once or twice before. The only word the generally comes to mind is “wow”. “Wow, they saved so much money.” “Wow, they spend 40 hours a week clipping coupons.” “WOW.”

Thanks to the good people over at American Express, coupon discounts will now be easier than ever. No clipping, no fuss. All you need is a Twitter account and an AMEX card.

At AdRANTs blog, I read about AMEX’s new Twitter program that allows cardholders to “tweet their way to savings” and launched last night. Apparently, all you need to do is sync your American Express card with your Twitter account, use merchant-specific hashtags and load couponless offers directly to your credit card.

Some companies already on board as of last night’s launch are 1-800-FLOWERS, Best Buy, 21st Century Department Stores, Cheesecake Factory, Dell, FedEx, FTD, Gulf, H&M, McDonald’s, Seamless.com, Sports Authority, Ticketmaster, Virgin America, Whole Foods Market, and Zappos.com.

With such a clever idea, I imagine other companies will be on board soon enough, and it won’t be long before other credit card companies try to follow in AMEX’s footsteps.

AMEX is going to show off this “new Twitter experience” during at a live-stream concert, the AMEX Sync Show featuring Jay-Z, on March 12th at 7 pm. You can catch this livestream via http://www.youtube.com/americanexpress.

  1. I guess they have to have this since they can’t be used at the Olympics… Just kidding! Kind of… I like this idea a lot! It seems like they’re trying to promote this service towards a younger demographic, judging by having Jay Z perform. I think it’s something people our age would definitely respond well to. Older generations may find it invasive to have companies putting coupons on something as personal as a credit card, but we are more comfortable with things like that.
